Nothing physically stops in space. Mercury keeps orbiting the Sun at its usual speed. Retrograde is a line-of-sight effect: Earth and Mercury travel at different rates around the Sun, and from our moving vantage point Mercury appears to slow, halt and drift backward against the background stars for about three weeks. NASA describes the same apparent reversal for any planet we overtake on the inside track.

What does change is the degree. On October 24, Mercury halts at 20.9790° tropical Scorpio. It then appears to slide back to 5°02′ Scorpio by November 13, when it stops and resumes forward motion. Those two degrees are the real coordinates of the cycle — the start line and the finish line of the review.

The station chart adds the detail that makes this retrograde specific rather than generic. Mercury's tightest aspect at the moment of the turn is a square to Jupiter at 2.3422°. That is the closest thing in the chart to a single signature, and it answers the question of why the generous offer is the sentence that breaks.

Back to the first question: why the generous offer in writing becomes this retrograde's problem child. Mercury square Jupiter at 2.3422° is the tightest aspect in the station chart, and it is the reason the overpromise is the sentence that fails. Jupiter in Leo enlarges, promises, gives generously. Mercury in Scorpio wants the cost, the catch and the fine print confirmed before it commits. When these two argue, your draft offers a favour you have not priced. It sounds warm. It quietly signs you up for three months of work.

Read the second half of the signature and the deadline side appears. The Moon at 6.4123° Aries sits 3.3884° from Saturn at 9.8007° Aries. This is the placement of the cautious yes: a commitment made under pressure, with a timeline attached and no slack in it. Aries wants to move now. Saturn retrograde says the resources are thinner than the enthusiasm.

Put the two together and the problem is not technology. It is scope. The email that says "I can get this done this week, and I'll also handle the client call and the invoice" carries both signatures at once: Jupiter's generosity and Saturn's overbooked calendar. Retrogrades do not break your laptop. They return that sentence to you with a question attached.

The Sun at 0.8949° Scorpio is conjunct Venus at 0.6620° Scorpio, a 0.2329° orb, the tightest pair in the snapshot. This is why the wrong sentences are usually about worth and loyalty, not typos. A message agreeing to a lower fee, a favour you never wanted to owe, a promise to someone whose approval you are still auditioning for. The core is not the wording; it is what you are agreeing to be worth. Mercury in Scorpio is the placement doing exactly this work: it reads the hidden clause, then refuses to look away.

The retrograde span travels from 20.9790° Scorpio back to 5°02′ Scorpio. Early degrees of the cycle, in most cases. That means the sentences asking for the second read will look like the first draft you sent, not the polished version. The message you assumed was settled. The offer you made in a rush on a Friday and forgot.

Sign position is not a measured contact. Mercury reversing through Scorpio does not hand every Scorpio a rewrite list. What matters is degree: a point in your chart sitting near 20.9790° Scorpio meets the station head-on, and anything near 21° Leo or 21° Aquarius catches the square line.

Pull up the birth chart calculator and look at your Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, rising sign and any planet or angle sitting between roughly 18° and 24° of Scorpio, Leo, Taurus or Aquarius. A planet within about three degrees of 20.9790° Scorpio is the one whose houses — the areas of life set by your chart — carry the sentences that need the second read.

The station degrees split the cycle into two zones. The late Scorpio point at 20.9790° marks where the review opens on October 24. The finish line sits at 5°02′ Scorpio, close to where Venus and the Sun already are. So the last stretch of the retrograde — early November onward — brings you back to messages that feel personal, loyal, tied to someone's opinion of you.

To see which of those degrees the station actually touches, use the transit chart calculator. It needs five inputs: your birth date, birth time, birth location, October 24, 2026 as the target date, and your own city as the event location. If you know your birth time, the rising sign calculator confirms your Ascendant so you can check whether the 21° points land on an angle — the most personal hit of all. Without a recorded birth time, you lose reliable houses, angles and rising sign. The Sun, Moon and planet degrees still stand, and the degrees are what decide whether you qualify.

Your personal version of this cycle is not the same as a sign label. The transit chart shows which of your placements the station touches, then how the pattern shifts as Mercury retraces to 5°02′ Scorpio. That is the difference between knowing the retrograde dates and knowing which message in your outbox is yours to fix.

No — the direct station on November 13, 2026 at 15:53 UTC does not mean every held message goes out that afternoon. Mercury stops at 5°02′ Scorpio before it moves forward, so the finish line is a checkpoint, not a green light for the whole backlog.

Build the review list before October 24. Open your drafts, your contract folder and the last two weeks of sent mail. Flag every message that promises more than you have confirmed: the scope you offered without costing it, the favor with no end date, the low fee you agreed to in a warm moment. Those are the sentences carrying the Mercury–Jupiter square at 2.3422°.

Then put a deadline on paper for anything you flagged. The Moon beside retrograde Saturn at a 3.3884° orb in Aries is the signature of the squeezed calendar. Write down what each promise will actually take in hours, and compare that number with the week ahead. Where the math does not close, rewrite the sentence now, before the station fixes it in place.

Keep the review narrow. Retrograde folklore blames every delayed train and dead phone. The chart points elsewhere: worth, loyalty and scope. A plain scheduling note, a routine confirmation, a grocery list — these are ordinary noise. The message that needs a second read is the one where you decided something about yourself and signed it in writing.

Expect a second pass in early November. As Mercury retraces toward 5°02′ Scorpio, it meets the ground Venus and the Sun already occupy at 0.6620° and 0.8949° Scorpio. The subject that resurfaces is personal: the favor you owe someone whose approval you wanted, the money agreement that never quite felt fair. The earlier draft returns because the earlier decision was never settled.

One working rule carries the whole cycle. When a sentence enlarges what you are offering and compresses your delivery date into the same breath, put it down and read it again in the morning. If it still holds up, send it. If your stomach drops, you have found the sentence this retrograde came to collect.

The timeline to hold in mind runs from 20.9790° Scorpio on October 24 back to 5°02′ Scorpio on November 13. Anything you rewrite inside that range gets a second hearing. Anything you rush through it gets returned with interest.

Do I need to delay signing a contract between October 24 and November 13? No universal rule stops you. The chart flags specific clauses, not all paperwork: anything promising scope you have not costed, or a delivery date with no slack. Confirm the numbers, then sign.

Does the square to Jupiter mean I should stop being generous? It means check the price tag on the generosity. Jupiter in Leo makes the offer sound grand. Mercury in Scorpio asks what it costs in hours, money or obligation. Give freely where you can afford it; rewrite where you cannot.

My Mercury is at 22° Leo. Does the station touch me? Yes, that is within about one degree of the square line from 20.9790° Scorpio, so it lands in the tightest band. A placement at 21° Aquarius counts too. Check the degree with the transit chart calculator rather than assuming.

What about signs rather than degrees? The degrees decide, as the chart-placement section explains. A Scorpio Sun at 3° does not qualify. A Leo Moon at 21° does.

When does the cycle actually clear? Mercury turns direct on November 13, 2026 at 15:53 UTC, but the clean stretch begins after it re-crosses 20.9790° Scorpio. Rewrites from the review period start reading as intended once Mercury clears that degree.

Where does the Moon fit, and does my birth time matter? The Moon at 6.4123° Aries sits beside Saturn, which is why the deadline side of a promise carries extra weight this cycle. Your own Moon can shift signs on the day you were born, so a date alone will not pin it down. The moon sign calculator shows the range and tells you whether you need your birth time to settle it.

What does the free calculator show that a sign list cannot? The transit chart calculator places October 24 against your own chart and names the exact degrees Mercury touches. That is the difference between reading about Scorpio and knowing which draft is yours.
