You need four things from your own chart, and you can find all of them in one sitting. An accurate birth time comes first, because the rising sign itself shifts roughly every two hours and the houses shift with it.
Then answer these in order.
One: what degree of Scorpio is rising? The exact degree tells you how far the door sits from the next sign. A late-degree Scorpio Ascendant reads more like an early Sagittarius rising in first impressions — faster to speak, quicker to move.
Two: where is your chart ruler? Find Mars and Pluto. One of them rules your chart — Mars by traditional rulership, Pluto by modern. Which sign and house it occupies tells you the life area where your screening process operates. Write that area down and check whether it matches where you actually feel most guarded.
Three: what is your Moon doing? The Moon describes how the guardedness feels from the inside. Cancer Moon: you feel the slight and need repair. Aquarius Moon: you observe and stay cool. Gemini Moon: you talk around it.
Four: does Saturn touch the ruler, the Moon, or the Ascendant? A hard Saturn contact supports the long-memory pattern. No Saturn contact means you probably remember the sting but reopen the door.
Run the same check with the transit chart calculator. When a transiting planet contacts your Ascendant ruler or your Moon, that is when the private review gets loud — and knowing the date beats being ambushed by it. The same contact method applies to any timed sky event, including a lunation; the full Moon guide shows how to read those hits without turning them into predictions. Save the result so you can compare the next pass against what actually happened.
The astrology calendar shows collective dates; it will not tell you which one lands on your ruler. That is what a chart-level check adds.
Notice where your own reading drifts. If you have never met a Scorpio rising who fits the revenge story, you have probably been reading the sign instead of the chart.
Finally, treat the result as a hypothesis. Watch how you behave in the next new room. If you spoke less than you intended, that is the Ascendant working. If you told the whole story in ten minutes, your ruler is somewhere more forthcoming than the stereotype assumes.
