The central theme
Two chart points sit 60° apart. That is the whole astronomy of it: a sextile is exact at 60°, and astrologers allow a small tolerance — an orb — around that mark. Measure 62° between the Ascendant and the IC and you have a 2° orb, still a sextile. Everything else is interpretation.
The Ascendant is the zodiac degree climbing the eastern horizon at your birth moment. It is the doorway people walk through when they meet you: your face, your handshake, your opening line. The IC is the opposite end of the private axis — the lowest point of the chart, where the meridian meets the ecliptic below the earth. It governs home, family, lineage, the self that exists when no one is watching.
Put them in sextile and the public doorway opens onto the private room. You do not have to perform a personality that contradicts your actual life. The voice on the phone matches the voice at the kitchen table. That is what makes this aspect feel like relief rather than achievement.
Here is the catch, and it is the thing readers most often get wrong. A sextile is not a trine. A trine flows on its own; you get the benefit whether or not you show up for it. A sextile is an open door. The connection and the opportunity are real, but the step through it is yours. Someone with this aspect can coast for years on being "easy to be around" without ever letting anyone see the basement.
